Life After Death: A Mother’s Decision to Move Forward
Our Life Skills Empowerment program at the Life Enrichment Center
is equipping unemployed and underemployed adults in Norfolk, VA to be successful
in the workplace! Five more people recently graduated from our January class
there.
Debra is one of those. The middle-aged woman was recovering from the
death of a child and needed motivation to begin again. A former elementary
teacher, she came to class that first day with a debilitating sense of
hopelessness and despair. She left with a brighter outlook on life and
hope for her future!
With the help of mentors at the Life Empowerment Program, Debra began
setting goals to become a licensed realtor by taking the national real
estate exam as well as start a mail order business. She completed her
week’s adventure with a mission statement that reads, “To
model, inspire and demonstrate hopefulness for my community and everyone
I come in contact with.”
So motivated by her experience, Debra wrote a letter saying, “Allow
me the opportunity to share with you how much the program at your Life
Enrichment Center has helped me. I came to the class all broken hearted,
discouraged and feeling helpless. First, each of your staff members greeted
me with love, smiles, and empathy. I know that none of you have had the
tragic experience of loosing a child but you used whatever God gave you
to minister to me. As a result, I now put God first again!
“The training sessions were excellent! They first showed me
how important it is to plan for my own success. I now recognize that my
successes lie in my daily routine. I have completed a real estate training
session and a class to assist me in passing the national portion of the
exam. Secondly, I'm writing my goals out each night as to what I want
to accomplish on the following day towards developing my business.
“…Your staff and the members of my class were great! I'm busy
doing the things that need to be done and I am no longer stuck in the
helpless state of discouragement! I pray that all of your classes be as
helpful to the new members as they were to me. Keep up the good work!
I love you all!”
Make a Big Difference
Partners like you had a hand in helping Debra begin to heal and move forward.
There are many more hopeless and hurting people around the world. Your
gift of only $150 can help an unemployed father or mother in the USA begin
the move from welfare to the workforce through our 12-week Life Skills
Empowerment program. $50 can give a South American family enough livestock
to be able to begin a profitable farm. And just $100 can train and equip
a woman in Africa or Asia to be seamstress.
