Her cupboards were painfully empty. The elderly lady decided to take a walk and think of how she could eat today. Coming around a corner, she saw people gathered outside of the John F. Kennedy Recreation Center. Curious, she decided to find out what was going on. To her surprise and relief, a Kansas City Chiefs' Red Coater volunteer escorted the hungry woman to a food distribution line. A short time later, she walked away with arms full of two grocery bags!

In addition to this elderly lady, approximately 1,200 guests received bags filled with items including fruit bars, cereal, fruit drinks, pasta, soup, salad, onions, potatoes, and yogurt at a 2-hour food distribution event last Saturday. Despite the very hot and humid weather, approximately 150 volunteers, including personnel from the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals, students from Kansas City Kansas Community College, Western Missouri Mental Health, and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Kansas City, Kansas City Royals Lancers, Kansas City Chiefs Red Coaters, Kansas City Cares, and Pleasant Vallet Baptist Church, packed and handed groceries to guests.

At the invitation of the Kansas City Chiefs, OBI's Hunger Strike Force sent two tractor-trailers to an area of Kansas City, Kansas that had never received a food distribution before! Eight players including Eric Hicks and Andre O'Neal from the Kansas City Chiefs and six Kansas City Royals including Luis Alicea and Hector Ortiz signed autographs, passed out groceries, and spent time with fans.

Younger guests received "high fives" from the Kansas City Royals mascot, Slugger, hugs from OB Bear while holding onto balloons, autographed hats, and gift bags filled with team towels, stickers, coloring books, and small stuffed animals. At the conclusion of the event, OBI was able to give an additional 1,310 bags to a food pantry.
