Dallas Outreach Center Extends Boarders of Compassion

Port-au-Prince, Haiti-- He was thirty pounds under weight and under ten years old. Living in a very remote Haitian village of one hundred, this child wasn't the only one suffering from malnutrition. Operation Blessing's Dallas outreach center recently extended their borders of compassion. See how here...

More than twenty years have passed since Bobby and Sherry Burnette settled in a small village two hours from Port-au-Prince to help the Haitian people. Their Love A Child organization has expanded to now providing 2,000 meals each day to orphans, school children and families who wouldn't have eaten otherwise. In addition to already providing food for 32,000 hungry Texans every month, Bruce Phillips, manager of OBI's Dallas outreach center, began supporting this dedicated couple almost a year ago by shipping containers of food supplies. "There's an incredible need," he commented after visiting this Caribbean country in May.

Remember the boy who was thirty pounds underweight? Through Operation Blessing and Feed My Starving Children's gift of over 140,000 meals to Love A Child, the chicken rice casserole has caused him to gain thirty pounds of healthy weight! As an added gift, Operation Blessing also sent prenatal and children's vitamins.

There is still much to do! Slightly smaller than Maryland, Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. Eighty percent of Haiti's population of almost seven million lives in abject poverty (World Fact book 2001). Seeing unclothed children is normal. Parasite and stomach worms among both adults and children is common. There are inadequate supplies of potable water. The list goes on.

"In response to this desperate situation in Haiti, Operation Blessing is exploring the possibility of conducting a medical mission in the near future," relayed Dick Kohl, Director of Disaster Relief and Medical Missions.

Feeding the poor. Tending the sick. Responding to disaster. Equipping children. These are the ways in which Operation Blessing provides hope in men, women and children around the world who would not otherwise have the opportunity to build a better future. We need more faithful partners!

Please make a generous gift today.
