Released Prisoner Receives A Second Chance
Halton City, Texas -- Recently released from prison Charles had to find a job quickly. With no money for food, the 30-year-old man needed assistance during this transition time. Dressed in worn clothing and flip flops, he walked into Feed The Multitude Food Ministry's (FMFM) door. This partnering ministry of Operation Blessing Dallas' network was ready to help Charles begin a new life.
Food ministry director Beverly Johnson noticed the young man as he humbly accepted the bag of groceries from a volunteer. She specifically observed his need for shoes and asked him what size he wore. "13," Charles simply said. Later during the week the determined woman shared the need with FMFM's associated church, Riverwalk Fellowship. Soon there was a donation of new pair of athletic shoes and dress shoes. Beverly prayed that Charles would be at the following week's Tuesday morning food distribution.
Along with several hundred other families and individuals in need, Charles came. He was surprised to receive not only the food, but also both pairs of shoes! Since then, he knows for sure someone cares for him. He also secured a job. Beverly hasn't seen Charles for a while, but she isn't worried. It means he's doing well.
Eight years have passed since Beverly began working with this food ministry. Forty faithful volunteers help this certified counselor pick up donations as well as package and distribute the product to an average of 1,200 households every month. Over half of the guests are elderly men and women. Without FMFM these people of this nice little town would have to pay for required medications and go days without food. Not only do people visiting FMFM receive needed groceries each week, but for the last two months volunteers have taken food to residents living in nearby low income apartments.
" I love being where God has put me," shared Beverly. "Seeing lives change through this ministry is so fulfilling."
However, Beverly would be the first person to say she can't do it by herself. As part of Operation Blessing Dallas' network, FMFM receives food and other aid from the Hunger Strike Force. In addition, various community businesses and the local food bank donate items including bread and fresh produce.
You too can help men, women and children in need during this harvest season.
