Free Food For 600 Hungry Families

Bristol, Virginia -- From the exterior, the old CBS building doesn’t look like much of anything. However, inside the devoted volunteers of Willing Partners work throughout the week making sure the poor living in this small mountainous community have something to eat. Two of its’ own volunteers would go hungry every month if it wasn’t for this Operation Blessing ministry partner. Here is Bill and Zandra’s story.

Bill and Zandra’s small monthly assistance check didn’t cover their basic needs. It wasn’t because they were too lazy to get jobs or had been foolish with their existing resources. Both were mentally challenged and unable to hold regular employment. Concerned about their continuing welfare, an employee at Social Services called the Willing Partners food pantry in January. Willing Partners responded to the request and soon helped Bill and Zandra with food and clothing.

The couple continues to receive food every month. In gratitude they regularly give time at Willing Partners and are a part of a small band of volunteers that feeds six hundred other families every month! For four years, Operation Blessing has been sending truckloads of product through our network in western Virginia. These loads provide a lot of the food that fills the bags given to hungry families in their community. Our contributing partners are an essential part of the team that makes this possible.

Over the years the needs of this small farming population have increased significantly. Textile plants and furniture plants have closed and taken their business overseas. The area’s unemployment rate became the highest in Virginia. Because of this growing need Willing Partners expanded to support its food-bank partly through a second-hand clothing store. Operation Blessing’s product distribution manager, Dennis Lee commented, “The organizations we work with have the drive to meet the donors desire of helping hungry people. We are able to come alongside ministries and help them reach out better.”

What about you? Do you have the drive to end hunger in America and around the world? Your gift of just $30 can insure that enough food, equivalent to 670 meals, will be delivered to hungry families. That’s just a dollar a day!
