One Last Hope for Clean Water
Turning
away from the cloudless sky, Narayan decided he didn’t have a choice.
The Indian man had to move his family from their village of Haithi and try
to begin again in Yavatmal. The year’s severe drought had dried out
their area’s only source of water. In order to make efforts to stay,
this farmer had already sold his land and incurred debt to keep his family
from starving. It grieved Narayan’s heart when he had to pull his
two boys to school, and ask them to work. Now it was time to follow the
other families that had left in search for water, food and work. Or was
it?
Moving day had tragically come. Narayan’s family began loading their
few belongings on to the 2-donkey cart when two vehicles stopped in the
center of the Haithi. Cars were not a common site in the poor farming community.
Curious villagers rushed to see who the visitors were.
Soon, Narayan’s youngest son came running and shouted to his father
that Operation Blessing’s Living Waters team had come to dig a new
well! Unimpressed, Narayan called out, "This news is nothing new.
The government has tried to dig several wells and none of them came up
with any water."
Narayan’s wife pleaded with him, “Please, let’s stay
and see if the well will bring water. I want to stay.”
He reluctantly changed plans commenting, “If they strike water
we will stay; if not we will move tomorrow.”
The entire village gathered near Operation Blessing’s rig, and anxiously
hoped for a miracle. Hours passed as our Living Waters team worked. People
waited and watched eagerly when the rig touched 290 feet. Clean water
suddenly gushed out with great force. Cries of joy echoed throughout the
crowd!
Narayan went up to the team and said, “Please sirs, accept our heartfelt
gratitude. You have certainly changed our decision. I do believe your
God is real and alive, bringing us a new hope through this well .We believe
that we will see a great future.”
You can prevent a child or adult from illness or even an early
death!
You can provide a family like Narayan’s with a well for as little
as $1,000 or a cistern for $200. Breaking it down, just $50 can provide
a lifetime of water for an individual. An average water bill for a household
in the US is approximately $50 per month. This means for just $50, or
one months’ water bill you can give a child or adult the gift of
a lifetime of clean water.
