The gift of clean water was given to more than 23,650 people living in thirteen Ghanaian villages at the beginning of this year!

“Only God can reward you for the wonderful work you have done,” expressed Nana Abena Tanaa, queen mother of Ampenkro. “You have brought back the smiles upon the faces of many, and we are very grateful and will be indebted to you for a longtime.”

Nana was speaking to our Living Waters team in Ghana. They had just completed fixing her village’s broken water pump. The Ghanaian community of 3,700 children and adults had been without access to clean water for two years. These poor farmers could not afford to fix the pump, forcing everyone to gather water from a manmade pond that was not protected from contamination such as animal use.

Ampenkro was one of thirteen villages whose water problems evaporated when our Living Waters team came in and fixed their pumps at the beginning of this year. It took only a few days to refurbish each one! Now more than 23,650 children and their families can drink as well as irrigate and cook with clean water.

Regardless of religion or the difficulty of reaching the area, our teams made sure each area’s hand or foot pump was working with perfection before leaving. The village of Nuamakrom Zongo and its’ population of 2,500 was also helped. “I am glad that even though we are mainly Moslems, you came to our rescue irrespective of our religion. May Allah bless and reward you,” commented Mallam Amadu Issahaku, community leader.

Some like Nana Afosa of Pewodie Estates couldn’t believe we would exert the effort to help strangers. “I find it hard to believe that people who do not know us and have nothing to do with us care so much about our welfare,” she said. “Accept my heartfelt thanks and that of my people for being so selfless. May the Lord, mightily bless and prosper you.”

Concerned mothers like Maame Esi Yamoah of Sumnyamekoduru expressed their thanks, “After one whole year of drinking from this [dirty] stream we can now drink again from this well. At long last the sicknesses we have been experiencing will be a thing of the past. Thank you very much for the wonderful, sacrificial work you have done.”
Partners, thank you for helping us supply these people with water for life! However, in the midst of this victory, thousands of villages around the world still don’t have access to potable water sources.
