The scorching afternoon sun poured over OBI's volunteer medical team as they finished packing the temporary clinic site they had called home for the past two weeks. Not far away, one of two surgical teams was finishing up the last orthopedic procedure in a local hospital. All were exhausted, but their hearts were full of joy -- 11, 869 medical services had been freely given to the Nicaraguan people!

As part of a full service medical clinic, OBI provides general medical, dental, and optical care, a full service pharmacy as well as a minor surgery option. General surgeon and family practice doctor Bob Burnett joined this Nicaragua mission, marking his eighth trip with OBI. Nurse Ana Marin assisted Dr. Burnett in 191 minor surgery procedures including lipoma excisions, sebaceous cysts and many other skin lesion removals. A dead beetle was even removed from inside a young child's ear.

"In the great majority of cases treated, these people could not have received the minor surgical care they got otherwise due to social/monetary considerations," commented Dr. Burnett. "It felt great to provide services that could relieve pain, reduce disfigurement, and aid in overall well-being to the needy and grateful people of Nicaragua."

Thank you partners for your assistance in helping make OBI's second medical mission to Managua, Nicaragua a huge success! The lives of our patients, their families and our volunteers will never be the same.
