Many
of us take our visits to the doctor or dentist for granted. Sometimes we
forget to cancel an appointment or get irritated when the office is running
behind. Millions of impoverished families around the world would gladly
walk miles over rugged terrain and stand in line for days for the chance
to see a doctor or dentist. See how you can Prescribe Life to a sick child
or pain-riddled adult.
In the United States
School required that five-year-old Wyatt have a dental exam. His mother
was raising nine children on the Navajo Reservation in Utah while her husband
finished time in prison. She didn’t have the money or transportation
to fulfill this requirement. But Wyatt had to attend school!
As part of the national medical program, Operation Blessing held a dental
clinic not far from Wyatt’s home. The little boy didn't utter a
peep as he received numerous fillings. Several of his brothers and sisters
also received treatment.
That
mission was only the beginning! This year we already have medical missions
scheduled to help migrant workers in Virginia and Idaho as well as poverty-stricken
families in North Carolina’s Appalachia Region. Thousands are waiting
for care. We need your help in bringing life-changing treatment to those
and other desperately needy people!
Overseas
Since our first international medical mission in 1994, Operation Blessing
has provided medical care for over 1 million people in more than 36 countries
including Afghanistan, Brazil, Colombia, Ghana, India, Israel, Kenya,
Mexico, Romania, Rwandan refugee camps, Vietnam, the United States and
Ukraine. Right now, we have medical mission programs actively treating
the poorest of the poor in Guatemala, Philippines, China, Indonesia, Nigeria
and Thailand! A few months ago, poor Ukrainians were also treated to free
medical care.
Kochan, 73, came to the medical mission in Lutsk, Ukraine in pain. She
hadn’t been able to bend her knee for over a year. Not able to afford
medicine or a doctor’s visit, Kochan’s only choice was to
live in constant misery. One of our doctors determined the elderly woman
had bursitis, an inflammation of a bursa sac between the joints. After
minor surgery and a small amount of recovery time, Kochan was living pain
free!
Our
Health Care Plan…
• Sends volunteer professionals to rural villages and low income
neighborhoods to operate both medical and dental missions
• Seeks out children and adults needing life-saving medical care
• Sets children and adolescents free through cleft lip and palate
surgery
• Freely treats patients that can’t afford health care
• Gives vitamins, over the counter medicine and prescriptions
• Educates patients in hygiene and nutritional care as well as HIV/AIDS
awareness
• Ships medicines, equipment and supplies to hospitals and clinics
in developing countries so they can provide better care for their patients
Give a Healing Touch
There are so many more children and adults whose lives depend on seeing
a doctor, dentist or surgeon!
