Teach a Nation to Fish

Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.
–Chinese Proverb

Teach a Nation to Fish is an exciting aquaculture program that tackles the threats of hunger, disease, and poverty. In Haiti, Teach a Nation to Fish is making an immediate impact by creating jobs and preventing illness—and also benefiting Haitians in the long term by providing a nutritious food source and sustainable livelihoods for families. There, Operation Blessing is partnering with Caribbean Harvest and the Haitian Ministry of Agriculture to help re-populate lakes and reservoirs, fight waterborne illnesses, provide a sustainable food source through aquaponics, and help hurting families through fish farms. Right here in the United States, Teach a Nation to Fish is helping crab fisherman and their families who were not only hit hard by the Gulf oil spill but are still recovering from devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina. Through a partnership with Louisiana Sea Grant and LSU AgCenter, Operation Blessing is supplying crab shedding systems to fishing families in Louisiana to help boost their income through the soft-shell crab business.
