Helping Hurricane Harvey Victims Take the Next Step

Volunteers work hard delivering supplies that will be used for helping Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas.

TEXAS, USA – Powerful Hurricane Harvey has continued its path of destruction. After the storm’s initial, category four landfall in the Corpus Christi area, it has produced an ongoing deluge of rain, causing flooding throughout coastal Texas. As a result, a chemical plant in Houston that went several days without power exploded, leading to a massive fire due to the chemicals not being stored at the proper temperatures. Now, Harvey has made landfall a second time, threatening more flooding near the Texas-Louisiana border. The confirmed death toll is at least twenty-nine, and expected to rise.

Those in need after Hurricane Harvey flock to the disaster relief supplies being offered by Operation Blessing.

Amidst all the turmoil, Operation Blessing is on the scene, helping Hurricane Harvey victims, bringing hope and restoration to the front lines of this crisis. OBI has delivered food, water, and hygiene supplies to desperate residents in areas like Taft and Houston and provided portable cribs for a mega-shelter in Dallas. We’ve brought in an 80 KW generator to serve as a source of power for relief operations. In addition, Operation Blessing has provided four semi-trailers, both refrigerated and dry, for Salvation Army field kitchens, as well as forklifts, Penske trucks, and port-a-potties. Beyond that, Operation Blessing brings hope, encouragement, prayers, and more to so many who are left dazed and confused by the level of destruction they face.

Operation Blessing workers offer encouragement, hugs, and a shoulder to cry on.

And our job has just begun. As the waters recede, the real work begins. Operation Blessing is already assessing the damage, partnering with local authorities and churches, and developing long-term strategies for disaster recovery. We’re setting up volunteer cleanup in Rockport through Church Unlimited, planning a distribution in Dickinson, and working on locations for volunteer housing.

Though the impact of this storm has been massive, our response will be as well. We’re ready to move in with a shower trailer, mobile kitchen, more food, emergency tarps and cots, trucks full of volunteer supplies and tools, and much more.
