VIRGINIA — Jiri knows what overcoming adversity looks like. As a hard-working woman living in Norfolk, VA, Jiri was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. But Jiri didn’t let this devastating news overwhelm her. She beat her cancer after having a lumpectomy and going through a round of radiation.
Nonetheless, last year Jiri began to struggle financially. Her job at a restaurant provided just barely enough for Jiri to get by. During that stressful time, she first heard about Operation Blessing partner Faith World Food Warehouse. This ministry offers groceries to individuals and families who are struggling financially, serving an average of 1,000 people every month. They helped her through that tough season.
But Jiri’s world was turned upside down again in the fall of 2018. She received her second breast cancer diagnosis, this time needing a double mastectomy. She has endured several months of chemotherapy and hormone therapy, and her treatments are still ongoing.
Jiri faced this diagnosis with the same determination as the first – she would beat it. But a new boss at her job told Jiri to come back after she had completed her treatments. Devastated and too exhausted to fight the decision, she began to worry about how she would make ends meet.
But because of your faithfulness, Faith World Food Warehouse met Jiri in her desperate time of need. She now receives free groceries and support every single month. Jiri felt so uplifted and encouraged by the volunteers that she even joined the affiliated church.
“Without the spiritual support, I don’t know where I would be,” Jiri said.
Jiri continues to fight for her life through cancer treatments and you have walked with her through her darkest seasons. “Thank you for having such a giving heart and helping people you don’t know,” she said.
